CARBON commits to decarbonizing the industry in Provence

CARBON is proud to be part of the collective “Provence Fabrique des Possibles“, alongside 100 business leaders and professional organizations to ensure the transformation and decarbonization of the industry in Provence.

A decisive turning point for the Provençal industry

Our industry stands at a crossroads today. Over 20 billion euros in investments have been announced in the area, with 31 major industrial establishment and transformation projects. This promises more than 10,000 direct jobs for the region by 2030, as well as improved quality of life for its residents. However, to successfully achieve this transformation, significant challenges must be overcome: social acceptance, job attractiveness, and infrastructure financing. Only a collective mobilization of economic players, the State, local authorities, and civil society will allow us to rise to the challenge.

4 priority axes for rapid collective action

To accelerate this transition, 100 business leaders and professional organizations have launched a major initiative: Provence, Fabrique des Possibles. Together, they have defined four priority areas calling for swift collective action:

  1. Access to low-carbon and reliable energy
It is essential to secure low-carbon and stable electricity to address the shortage faced by the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, where 60% of the electricity consumption comes from the Rhône Valley. This will also respond to the expected increase in demand by 2030, requiring a doubling of current consumption to support the decarbonization of the industry.
  2. Strengthened State support
It is crucial for the State to continue financially supporting these projects as part of the France 2030 investment plan. This also involves speeding up the financing of infrastructure projects, estimated at over 2 billion euros. Among the priorities are the completion of the Martigues Port-de-Bouc bypass (52 million euros remaining) and the Fos-Salon link (between 600 and 800 million euros), aimed at improving access to the Marseille-Fos industrial-port area and the surrounding Berre lagoon, which is currently highly complex.
  3. Attracting and training new talent
The success of these projects depends on the ability to attract and train 10,000 new talents by 2030. In an industrial sector facing significant tension and suffering from a lack of attractiveness, especially among young people and women, it is crucial to change the perception of these professions and strengthen training initiatives.
  4. Creating inclusive and agile governance
There is a need to establish a governance body that brings together the State, local authorities, industrial and economic actors, and civil society. This body must be equipped with effective administrative tools to enable harmonious, responsive, and concerted development policies.

CARBON’s commitment

At CARBON, our connection to the South runs deep, with our giga-photovoltaic plant project in Fos-sur-Mer and our innovation and excellence center, CARBON Lab, in Istres. By signing this manifesto, we call for collective mobilization to build together the leading decarbonization region in France.
